Our Team

The dedicated radiation staff at the Austin Center for Radiation Oncology (ACRO) are highly trained medical professionals skilled in the latest technology and techniques currently available.

   
   

Rufus Mark, MD

Radiation Oncologist

Dr. Rufus Mark brings more than 20 years of experience and training in radiation oncology research and practice. He expands the Austin Center for Radiation Oncology’s scope of cutting edge procedures in radiation oncology, including the newest intensity-modulated (IMRT) and image-guided (IGRT) technologies.

Dr. Mark is a graduate of Yale University and the UCLA School of Medicine. Upon completion of his training, he pursued both academic and private medical center positions within a number of Southern California’s foremost practices.  For the last eight years, he has served as a radiation oncologist with the Joe Arrington Cancer Center in Lubbock, Texas, and as a clinical professor of radiation oncology at Texas Tech Medical Center.  He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in cutting edge procedures in radiation oncology and is an active member of numerous professional and honor societies. 

Dr. Mark has relocated to Austin where his family has a long-standing history in the community. Both of Dr. Mark's parents were professors at local universities.  His mother was a professor at St. Edwards University in Austin for many years. His father was the first Secretary of the Air Force under the Carter administration, and then was appointed Deputy Administrator at NASA under Ronald Regan. From 1982 to 1990 Dr. Mark’s father was Chancellor of the University of Texas, where he is still a professor in the UT Department of Aerospace Engineering.

Dr. Mark is an avid sports fan, especially basketball & tennis. He has three children, ages 20, 18, and 16, one of whom attends Texas Tech University with the hopes of playing college football. His younger son is heading to the U.S Merchant Marines Academy, and his daughter will be entering her senior year in high school.

Our Radiation Staff

In addition to the Radiation Oncologist, ACRO is staffed by a group of accredited medical professionals.  Among them are our Dosimetrist, Regan Nantz, and Physicist, Brad Pollard, both highly skilled professionals who commission and maintain the sophisticated radiation therapy equipment and treatment planning software, and assist the Radiation Oncologist in developing a unique radiation plan for each patient.

Your treatment will be delivered by therapists Shanti Hall, Katherine Chapman and Kaci Paden and medical assistants Lamar Garcia and Gabe Hernandez, all highly experienced but also recently trained in the latest technology available in radiation treatment, with daily on-site supervision by the physician.

Additional billing professionals, medical assistants and front office staff will assist you with all aspects of the treatment process to make your experience at our radiation center as positive and seamless as possible.
